NAVSEA Building Design Muscles Working on Next-generation Destroyer, Submarine 14 August 2025

Naval Sea Systems Command wants to bring the highly complex task of designing the next generation of capital warships back to the Navy. NAVSEA is bolstering a group of government naval architects, engineers, and draftsmen to shape the planned next-generation DDG(X)destroyer and SSN(X) attack submarine that are set to enter service in the 2030s. This move would place the Navy in the driver’s seat as the lead design agent for the next two major hulls that are meant to replace the storied Arleigh Burke-class (DDG-51) destroyers and Virginia-class (SSN-774) attack submarines currently under construction.
