News from 2024 ASIU: Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs to Develop Sea-Launched Cruise Missile

In March, Congress signed a letter establishing the Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs office as the organization that will design, develop, build and deploy a nuclear-armed sea-launched cruise missile. Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment William LaPlante then directed the Navy to establish a nuclear-armed sea-launched cruise missile (SLCM-N) program office and to begin the analysis phase. VADM Johnny Wolfe, director of Strategic Systems Programs, told reporters during the NSL’s Annual Symposium & Industry Update that the program office has been stood up must now “[understand] what is the trade space and then what the schedule look like to get to the acquisition decisions, to the milestones, and all that.”
