Room aboard new Navy submarine USS Idaho to be named for Dirk Kempthorne  15 January 2026

The engine room of the USS Idaho will be named for former Idaho Governor and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne. In a press release on 14 January 2026, U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-ID) explained the naming request to “acknowledge Kempthorne’s significant contributions to this project as well as a lifetime of support to the U.S. military.”
