The U.S. Navy has announced that it will replace Pier 31 at Naval Submarine Base New London, with the project expected to be completed by November 2027. Navy officials state the upgrade is essential for supporting not only the Los Angeles-class and Virginia-class submarines already homeported at the 10-pier base, but also future vessels. The submarines stationed at the base include the USS Iowa, a Virginia-class ship that was commissioned in April.
