Fleet/Navy Weeks and Namesake Visits

Fleet Weeks

U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard ships recently deployed in overseas operation dock in a variety of major cities every year for one week.  Crews visit local tourist attractions and anyone can take guided tours of the ships

Navy Weeks

The Navy sends active duty personnel to up to 15 U.S. cities every year, usually for a week at a time, as outreach into areas of the nation without a significant Navy presence.  This outreach effort is the Navy’s primary was to share with Americans how their Navy is deployed around the world and around the clock.  There are events that anyone can attend, including participation by corporate, civic, government, education, media veterans, community service and diversity organizations.

Namesake Visits

Many submarines are named for states and cities, so public support for these crews, when they visit their namesake locations, can be particularly meaningful.  Information about these visits is often provided in local newspapers, radio programs, and TV news.  Some activities offer opportunities to meet our sailors that anyone can do.

NSL members can help staff an NSL booth or table when these events are nearby.  NSL exhibits include banners, informational flyers, and STEM activities.  NSL volunteers  talk about the importance of submarines to our national defense with members of the public.  They also share sea stories and encourage people to donate or join the NSL, to learn what the NSL does, and to become part of the submarine support community.
